How Change Comes About

This thought from Richard Rohr’s daily meditation seems apropos after last evening’s discussion in which the Dignity/Washington community continues to consider whether “to have women presiders at Eucharist”:

In the second half, you try to influence events, work for change, quietly persuade, change your own attitude, pray, or forgive instead of attacking things head on.

  1. By that sentiment none of the civil rights successes of the last century would have occurred. Indeed slaves would still be bought and sold in downtown DC without the Civil War. Without ACT UP most HIV medications would still be in the pipe line. Yes prayer, self-examination, and openness are virtues, but sometimes evil must be confronted and stopped.
